  • Management of Opioid-induced Constipation in Older Adults. [Review]
    J Clin Gastroenterol. 2023 Jan 01; 57(1):39-47.Horrigan J, Bhumi S, … Tadros M
  • Opioid-induced constipation (OIC) is a common condition in older adults who may not be responsive to traditional laxative therapy. OIC is defined as new or worsening constipation symptoms that occur with initiation of or altering the dose of opioid analgesia. For adult patients with OIC and noncancer pain, we recommend considering nonpharmacologic interventions (eg, dietary measures, increased ph…

    Z Rheumatol. 2021 Feb; 80(1):54-64.Krusche M, Schneider U, Ruffer N
  • Pericarditis is the term for inflammatory involvement of the pericardium, which can be associated with pericardial effusion and myocardial involvement (perimyocarditis). • [Specialist training quo vadis?] [Review]
Z Rheumatol. 2019 Oct; 78(8):692-697.Krusche M, Sewerin P, … Rheumadocs und Arbeitskreis Junge Rheumatologie (AGJR)
  • CONCLUSIONS: The nationwide number of newly acquired specialist qualifications (between 2015 and 2017) showed a decreasing trend. It is to be feared that the numbers will continue to stagnate, which increases the importance to invest further in medical education. The online survey also showed that the current medical training in Germany has deficits. Here, the new MWBO could create better guidelines for a structured training, which should be guided by the principle of "Teach to Target".

    Rheumatol Int. 2019 Nov; 39(11):2005-2014.Lötscher F, Krusche M, … Kötter I
  • Idiopathic antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitides (AAV) are a group of diseases that are often difficult to diagnose due to the wide range of clinical manifestations. Notably, renal involvement is a serious organ complication, which usually requires intensive immunosuppressive therapy and is prone to recurrence. In recent years, there has been some progress regarding t…
  • Many Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome Have Atypical Food Allergies Not Associated With Immunoglobulin E. [Journal Article]
    Gastroenterology. 2019 Jul; 157(1):109-118.e5.Fritscher-Ravens A, Pflaum T, … Schuppan D
  • CONCLUSIONS: In a CLE analysis of patients with IBS, we found that more than 50% of patients could have nonclassical food allergy, with immediate disruption of the intestinal barrier upon exposure to food antigens. Duodenal tissues from patients with responses to food components during CLE had immediate increases in expression of claudin-2 and decreases in occludin. CLE+ patients also had increased eosinophil degranulation, indicating an atypical food allergy characterized by eosinophil activation.
